What
is anxiety? Anxiety, on an emotional level, is a form of
fear - fear of something either real or perceived. For
example, it is expected for a person to feel stress when
a speeding car is headed his direction. It would be a
problem if weeks later, that same person were afraid to
go outside as a result of seeing a speeding car.
Usually
you may only discover your anxiety when outside
circumstances bring your anxiety to the forefront. A
person often decides her anxiety is unmanageable once an
external circumstance had exacerbated her internal
source of anxiety. That is to say, a condition already
existed with her.
Some
common forms of anxiety include: fear of success, fear
of failure, fear of social interactions, fear of being
alone, or even generalized fear (fear of nothing
specific).
Properly
understood, anxiety can actually serve you and lead you
toward greater mental and emotional health. It can serve
as a warning sign or red flag, signaling you to make
necessary adjustments in your life.
